We’re fired up to end godfatherism in our state, says Lagos PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos says it is fired up to end godfatherism in the state.

The party said this following the victory of Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state.

Obaseki, PDP governorship candidate, polled 307,955 votes to defeat Osagie Ize-Iyamu, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 223,619.

Subsequently, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the PDP candidate as winner of the election.

In a statement, Taofik Gani, spokesman of the PDP in Lagos, said with the victory of Obaseki, they are now “fired” to win the state.

Gani said the party will start by winning the bye-elections in Lagos and “eventually the 2023 general election”.

“The Lagos state chapter particularly hail[s] the governor for his ability to garner the needed vote to be declared at the first ballot, in the face of rumored federal might,” he said.

“To us in Lagos state PDP we have grasped from the well-deserved victory, the renewed commitment, and resoluteness to also win Lagos state to end godfatherism and imposition in Lagos politics.

“As a matter of fact, we are now more ever than before fired up to win Lagos State. We shall manifest this ability in the coming bye-elections in the state and eventually the 2023 general elections.”
