The Nigerian Twittersphere is abuzz over photos which show the army donating food items to surrendered Boko Haram commanders.
The Boko Haram commanders had surrendered to troops in Operation Hadin Kai.
In a statement on Monday, Onyema Nwachukwu, army spokesperson, shared photos of the Boko Haram commanders, saying Musa Adamu, a chief bomb expert of the insurgents, was one of those who surrendered.
“Following the recent escalation of offensive operations coupled with non kinetic efforts by troops of operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) which yielded massive surrendering of Boko Haram and Islamic State of West Africa Province Terrorists in the North East, the Chief Bomb Expert of the terrorists group known as Musa Adamu a.k.a Mala Musa Abuja and his second in command Usman Adamu a.k.a Abu Darda along with their families and followers have also finally surrendered to the troops of operation HADIN KAI in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State,” the statement said.

The army distributed new clothes and assorted food items, and toiletries to the surrendered insurgents and their families, totalling 335 fighters, 746 adult women and children, including one of the abducted Chibok girls.
The ”repentant” insurgents are seen carrying placards, some of which read, “Nigerians, please forgive us”.
“The law will be doctored to forgive them.., the govt will give them first class treatment with public fund. But young Nigeria youth protesting on the street for a better country is seen as a threat that deserve to rot in jail or shot at. This system is on spell,” Samuel, a Twitter user, wrote.

As you vent looking at these incredulous images, imagine this:
You're a soldier back in the village, terribly wounded (legs amputated) lost about 20 buddies in the war.
AdvertisementYou say to yourself "at least we killed & captured those bastards"
You then open Twitter & see this

the kind of anger these headlines stirs in me.
How are these people getting press coverage and celebration more than their victims who are starving in IDP camps in the worst conditions ever? https://t.co/QClJFQzzvc— A Warrior (@OthenticMan) August 10, 2021

No society can survive without these 3; Justice, Development and Peace.
As they are arranged, you can't have Development and Peace without Justice FIRST!
With the mindset portrayed below, we are only building a society of unending vengeance. https://t.co/IEWAncp0Qc

I come from where you're more likely to get killed for peacefully protesting injustice than for brutally murdering thousands of innocent people. Great nation. 🇳🇬 https://t.co/dwbgWe7Ill
