West Brom ship out Ideye to Olympiacos

West Brom’s Nigerian flop, Brown Ideye, has joined Olympiacos of Greece for a fee of €6,500,000 (about N1.4bn) in a deal that has offered the estranged Super Eagles striker a lifeline after his trumpeted £10 million acquisition failed to yield the desired result.

Details of Ideye’s new contract with Olympiacos was still sketchy as at the time of filing this report, but it was learnt exclusively from Greece that the Nigerian would be unveiled by the Greece Champions today.

Ideye’s arrival in Olympiacos prompted the release of their Argentinian import, Franco Jara, to make way.  It was also learnt that Jara joined Olympiacos without an international passport, which equally made it difficult for the Greek team to seal up his transfer.

Ideye will be joining a Nigerian compatriot in Olympiacos, Michael Olaitan who is currently on loan at Twente after his heart problem, which kept him out of action for a season.

Only last season, Ideye became West Brom’s record signing, when he joined the Baggies from Dynamo Kiev of Russia for a fee of £10 million.

He struggled to adapt to EPL rhythm but failed after scoring only seven goals in all his appearances for the team.
