We’ve not made a decision to dissolve emirates, says Kano government

The Kano state government says no decision has been made concerning the new emirates established by the previous administration.

In 2019, Abdullahi Ganduje, immediate past governor of Kano, signed a law splitting the Kano emirate into five, with four new emirates created in the process.

The then Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, was subsequently deposed by Ganduje’s administration.

Ganduje had dethroned Sanusi over “total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the governor”, and had appointed Aminu Ado Bayero as the new emir.

According to a statement by Sanusi Tofa, chief press secretary to Abba Yusuf, new governor of Kano, the government is not dissolving the new emirates to reinstate Sanusi II, as is being speculated in the social media.

Speaking on recent speculations, Tofa said the governor only sent a request to appoint 20 special advisers, adding that the current administration will be transparent on policy implementation.

“No decision yet taken on the status of the new emirates established by the previous administration,” the statement reads.
