Widow of murdered Kwara monarch regains freedom after four days in captivity

The widow of late Peter Aremu, Onikoro of Koro-Ekiti in Ekiti LGA of Kwara state, has regained her freedom after four days in captivity.

Last Thursday, gunmen invaded the residence of the traditional ruler, killed him, and abducted his wife and two others.

The incident sparked outrage as Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, governor of Kwara, promised that perpetrators would face justice.

On Sunday, Kehinde Bayode, chairman of the transition implementation committee (TIC) in Ekiti LGA, said abductors of the monarch’s wife demanded N40 million as ransom.

Ejire-Adeyemi said the operation yielded positive results when the monarch’s wife and a victim were rescued on Monday night.

She added that the rescued victims reunited with their family members “hale and hearty”.
