Wike approves N70k minimum wage for FCTA workers

Nyesom Wike has approved a minimum wage of N70,000 for civil servants in the federal capital territory (FCT).

The minister also approved the payment of three months arrears.

Grace Adayilo, head of civil service of the FCT, announced the development on Tuesday in a statement.

She said the move demonstrates the minister’s commitment to the welfare of FCT workers.

“The gesture will further spur workers of the administration to support the minister’s efforts toward delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu,” NAN quoted Adayilo as saying.

Adayilo thanked the minister for always “granting expeditious approval for payment of staff allowances and claims”.

In July, President Bola Tinubu signed the minimum wage bill, increasing workers’ pay from N30,000 to N70,000.

Implementation of the new minimum wage varies across states.

On October 16, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, announced that the minimum wage for public sector workers in the nation’s commercial capital would be N85,000.

On October 18, Siminalayi Fubara, governor of Rivers, approved N85,000 as minimum wage for civil servants in his state.

On October 24, Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu, announced a new minimum wage of N80,000 for civil servants in the state.

On October 25, Umo Eno, governor of Akwa Ibom, announced N80,000 as minimum wage for civil servants.

On Monday, Hyacinth Alia, governor of Benue, approved a minimum wage of N75,000 for civil servants in the north-central state.
