Wike asks FCT residents to shun planned protest

Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), has implored residents not to partake in the nationwide protest.

Wike spoke on Thursday during an interactive session with residents, after inspecting the construction of the Saburi to Dei Dei road in Abuja.

There have been reports that youths are planning a nationwide protest against the rising cost of living.

The minister said the protest is “organised by politicians to destabilise President Bola Tinubu’s administration”.

He said Tinubu is aware of the nation’s problems and “working tirelessly” to address the challenges.

Wike said ongoing reforms and policies would soon yield desired results.

“Those asking you to protest are lying to you. It is not for the interest of Nigeria and it is not for your interest,” NAN quoted Wike as saying.

“Don’t be angry and don’t join the protest, because protest will not solve the problem. The government is aware of the hunger and that is why it is working hard to find a lasting solution to the problem.

“I know that hunger makes people lose patience. Please be patient. That is all I am asking. This hunger will reduce very soon.”

Wike assured residents of the area that the government will construct a police station in Saburi.

Christopher Maikalangu, chairman of Abuja municipal area council, promised to construct a health facility in the area.
