Wike has now ‘become a law unto himself’

Uche Igwe, a political analyst, has criticised Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, over the demolition of two hotels that allegedly violated the lockdown order in the state.

The governor had asked all hotels to suspend services indefinitely over the coronavirus pandemic but two hotels in Eleme and Onne allegedly violated the order.

Subsequently, they were pulled down on Sunday and this has sparked an outrage across the nation.

In a statement, Igwe described the governor as behaving like “a bull in a China shop”.

“I am shocked but not completely surprised that Wike has now become a law unto himself. I was in the Port Harcourt when he unleashed terror on the people,” he said

“He does not understand the meaning of legitimacy and public trust. I call on the good people of River State to now rise and resist this.”

Igwe asked Buhari to summon and caution the governor.

“I am not saying that violators of the stipulated regulations to curtail covid-19 should not be cautioned but we must do so within the law,” he said.

”The action of Mr. Wike is akin to dictatorship and a huge embarrassment to the Body of Benchers to which he is said to belong.”
