Wike: How we killed other political parties in Rivers

Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, says no other political party can raise its head in the state because the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has defeated them with its achievements.

Wike said this during a reception organised by the state chapter of the PDP to welcome members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who defected to the party.

Leaders of the defectors include Gloria Boma, APC south-south administrative officer, and Henry Ogiri, former director of finance and administration of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The governor thanked the defectors for “their bold step” and assured them that they would be accorded the same respect as every other party member.

“I thank you for this bold step taken to join the PDP. Only a wicked man who does not like good things will not see what we are doing in Port Harcourt,” Wike said.

“With our achievements, we have killed any party that wants to raise its head. This is done by your support. In May 27, 2015, somebody said we can’t pay salary. Today, we are not talking about payment of salary, we employing 5000 youths into the state civil service.”

The governor said the APC has continued to give excuses for its failure after “the unfortunate conspiracy” to remove ex-President Goodluck Jonathan from office.

“Are things better today? So why do you allow people to tell you lies? How long can you continue to listen to the lies of the All Progressives Congress? he said.

“They have nothing for Nigerians. It is unfortunate that there was a conspiracy to remove a Niger Delta person as President.”

Desmond Akawor, PDP chairman in the state, said the defectors are convinced that the PDP is a party that believes in good governance and means well for the people.

He said Wike’s development projects across local government areas in the state have endeared the people to the PDP.
