Wike ‘not following due process’ in award of contracts

Sobomabo Jackrich, leader of the Network for the Defense of Democracy and Good Governance (NDDGG), has accused Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers, of not following due process in awarding contracts for projects in the state.

Jackrich alleged that the governor usually does not publish notice of tenders and bidding process while awarding contracts.

He made the allegation on Thursday in Luuwa community in Khana LGA of Rivers, where he received a chieftaincy title.

“In every developed state and country, before a project is being awarded, there will be a publication, advert for people to bid. Please, my dear Rivers people, can anybody show me where such bidding is taking place?” he asked.

“The governor decides what he decides, he will come out and say this project is N200 million, Bori/Sakpenwa road is N50 billion, and so he has paid this and that.

“Nobody comes together to give him a bill of quantity, and there’s no publication anywhere to show that this project would be done”

Jackrich, who is also the leader of Kengema Unity Forum, said the second phase of the Bori/Sakpenwa road was awarded only after the group raised the alarm that it was commissioned despite being 40 percent completed.

TheCable has contacted Kelvin Ebiri, Wike’s spokesman, for comment but has not yet had a response.
