Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), says a security outfit which will rid the nation’s capital of beggars and criminals will be launched on Friday.
Wike spoke in Abuja on Monday at the flag-off of upgrading the War College/army checkpoint and other ancillary roads within the Bwari area council.
On October 22, the FCT minister read a riot act to beggars and scavengers in the nation’s capital.
Describing it as “embarrassing,” Wike had ordered the evacuation of beggars on Abuja streets within a week.

He added that the situation was a security threat, as the beggars could be criminals and “informants” in disguise.
On Monday, the minister said he would ensure that the city was rid of “unwanted elements,” adding that the beggars could ply their trade elsewhere.
“On Friday, of course, we’re going to launch another security scheme, where we are going to make sure — whether you call yourself that you’re not the cause, it’s not my business,” he said.

“Stay in your state and beg. FCT cannot be centre of beggars. It’s the only city we have in Nigeria to showcase the world; we will not allow that.”
“I didn’t say it is good—some of you chose to beg. So, we will not allow that; if you want to beg, you can come to these village areas but leave the city.
“The city must be clean. We’re ready for the criminals.”
