The internet went agog in the early hours of Sunday following Anthony Joshua’s shocking defeat to Andy Ruiz Jr on his debut in the United States.

Ruiz, who stunned the British fighter with a “TKO” in the seventh round to become Mexico’s first ever world heavyweight champion, walked away from Madison Square Garden with all of Joshua’s titles — including the WBA, WBO and IBF crowns.

Joshua immediately took to Twitter to congratulate his opponent.

The British fighter’s surprise loss to a fighter many fans had either never heard of, or knew little about, stirred reactions on social media platforms.
