Witness: Saraki, wife co-owned company used to buy undeclared property

Michael Wetkas, a detective of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Wednesday, said Senate President Bukola Saraki and his wife, co-owned a company through which he allegedly bought an undeclared piece of property.

The company in question is Carlie Property Limited, a company, Wetkas claimed was owned by Saraki.

While being cross-examined by Paul Usoro (SAN) on count six of the charge of false declaration of assets at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Wetkas maintained that a piece of undeclared property‎ at plot 2482 Cadastral zone Maitama, Abuja was that of Saraki.

He disclosed that Saraki bought the property in 1993, but that he did not declare it in 2003 when he became governor of Kwara state.

When asked if Saraki’s name was in the deeds of the property, Wetkas‎ said: “No, it was not mentioned.”

Saraki’s lawyer:  “Was the name of the defendant listed as the owner of Carlie Property Nigeria Limited, the company through which property was allegedly bought?

Wetkas: “No, but the defendant’s wife is a shareholder in the company. She told us the defendant is the owner of the company.”
