Some women and youths on Wednesday staged a protest over the alleged killing of six miners in the Farin Lamba community in Jos south LGA of Plateau state.

NAN reports that the protesters barricaded the Jos-Akwanga road, disrupting vehicular movement on the highway.

Alfred Alabo, police spokesperson, said security operatives have been deployed to the community to maintain peace and order.

“Our men are on the ground and I do not want to disturb them to get the situation on the ground, so I will furnish you with the actual information soon,” Alabo said.

“Since it is a protest, we have mobilised our men to give them cover and ensure no further breakdown of law and order in the area.”

Speaking on the incident, Christy Gyang, one of the protesters, said six people were killed by gunmen who attacked their community on Tuesday night.

“For days now, we have been experiencing a series of attacks and killings in this community, and just yesterday at about 8 p.m. they attacked and killed six people,” Gyang said.

“So, we have come out to protest because we are no longer safe and to call on the government to come to our aid.”

Also speaking, James Davou, a resident of the community, said the gunmen killed his three siblings alongside three other miners at a mining site during the invasion.

He added that the gunmen carted away their properties including their working equipment.

On April 16, many residents were reportedly killed by gunmen in an attack on communities in Mangu and Bokkos LGAs of Plateau state.
