Women Radio Centre shortlists 20 female journalists for 2024 investigative reporting training

The Women Radio Centre has selected 20 female journalists to participate in the 2024 investigative reporting training.

In a statement on Friday, Toun Sanaiya, chief executive officer (CEO) of the centre said the training will run from May 13 to 15.

The centre, which is the first Nigerian radio station for women, started the training in 2020 with support from the MacArthur Foundation.

Sanaiya said the workshop will empower female journalists to uncover issues affecting women in Nigeria.

“The objective of the 2024 female investigative reporting training is giving power to young female journalists to uncover and report untold stories that affect women and girls,” the statement reads.

“It will amplify the voices of women and create a balance in the investigative gender gap.”

Out of 388 applications received, only 20 female reporters were selected, including Janefrances Chibundu, TheCable journalist.

The 2024 training will be facilitated by media professionals led by Dapo Olorunyomi, publisher of Premium Times Nigeria.

Others include Suleiman Yar’Adua of Bayero University Kano, Idris Akinbajo, managing editor of Premium Times Nigeria, and Busola Ajibola, deputy director at the Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID).

Other facilitators are Charles Mbah, programme lead at Dataphyte; Maxine Danso, senior researcher at Dubawa Ghana; and Anas Aremeyaro, an undercover investigative journalist from Ghana.
