On Saturday, the Super Eagles of Nigeria qualified for the quarter-final of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast.

An Ademola Lookman’s brace was vital as Nigeria defeated 2-0 Cameroon in the second-round clash at the Stade Félix Houphouet-Boigny, Abidjan.

The Super Eagles will face Angola in the competition’s quarter-final on February 2.

Following the victory, Nigerians on social media have been celebrating, praising the Super Eagles while cracking one or two jokes at the opponents’ expense.

Festus Kenyamo, minister of Aviation, congratulated the Eagles for the triumph but added that they must keep “feet firmly on the ground until you bring the ultimate prize home”.

“On current form, we were actually better than Cameroon. It’s just that it was Cameroon, the age-long ‘enemy’, so it got all of us on the edge of our seats!” the tweet reads.

“Congratulations, Super Eagles, but the job is not done yet. Keep your feet firmly on the ground until you bring the ultimate prize home!”

On his part, Joe Abah, a former director-general of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR), praised the Eagles’ defensive grit, adding that it is “something we’ve never really had”.

“Cameroon didn’t have even one shot on target. It seems that this coach is giving us something we’ve never really had: a defence,” the tweet reads.
