‘We won’t be distracted by external forces’ — PDP reacts to splinter group

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it will not be distracted by those who have allowed themselves to be used by forces from another political party.

Describing the emergence of a new faction as comical, the opposition party said it would remain unperturbed.

Earlier on Wednesday, a group led by one Emmanuel Obi-Nwosu, opened its own national secretariat in Asokoro area of Abuja.

At its inaugural press conference, the group identified as Fresh PDP vowed to do everything within its powers to reclaim the leadership of PDP.

But Kola Ologbodiyan, spokesman of the PDP, said the Obi-Nwosu group was only making outlandish claims in the media.

Ologbondiyan hailed ongoing reconciliatory efforts of Seriake Dickson, governor of Bayelsa state and head of the party’s peace committee.

The spokesman said the party is satisfied with responses from those approached for reconciliation.

We are happy with the efforts of the Governor Seriake Dickson-led Reconciliation Committee as well as the responses from all the respectable and responsible leaders of our party in that regard,” he said.

“We will however not be responsible or respond to any person or groups of individuals who decide to allow themselves to be used by forces from another political party in a laughable and childish attempt to distract us.

“PDP under the Prince Uche Secondus national leadership will continue to focus on repositioning our great party to be the formidable opposition that will guarantee checks and balances in our polity and ultimately regain power in 2019.”
