Makarfi was appointed at the party’s national convention in Port Harcourt on Saturday.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman assured leaders of the party that they would have no cause to regret choosing him.

Earlier Nyesom Wike, Rivers state governor and chairman of the convention, had told the committee members that they were ineligible for election.
