Workers at the Abuja Urban Mass Transit Company (AUMTCO), on Friday, protested the removal of Najib Mahmoud Abdussalam, managing director of the organisation.
On Wednesday, Nyesom Wike, minister of the federal capital territory (FCT), terminated the appointments of 21 heads of parastatals, agencies and companies under the FCT administration.
In a video shared on X, the workers were seen with the outgoing MD saying he spent less than four months on the job.
While some workers wept, others offered prayers for Abdussalam, especially for his return to the company.

“If we do not appreciate, God won’t forgive us. And that’s why we are here to show him that we appreciate him,” a worker said.
The workers said they would have protested more if it was only the boss who got sacked.
In another video on the X platform, the employees gathered at the entrance of an office complex, chorusing “We want you”.

Anthony Ogunleye, director of press in the office of the minister, said Wike’s directive was with immediate effect, adding that appointments into the offices would be made in due course.
He noted that all the concerned officials have been directed to hand over the affairs of their offices to the most senior officers in rank.
