‘World champions’ Flying Eagles fail to qualify for 2017 AYC

Victor Osimhen’s own goal denied Nigeria qualification for the Africa Youth Championships in Zambia.

The Flying Eagles, the nation’s U-20 national team who won the first leg in Khartoum 2-1 two weeks ago, could not live up to expectation on home soil on Saturday.

Goals by Samuel Chukwueze and Femi Bamgboye could not help the African champions to edge out the visitors, as the scoreline stood at 4-3 in favour of the Sudanese at the end of 90minutes.

The Nigeria team, who were seen as the favourite of the two sides, could not contain the 10-man Young Falcons, with the day’s scoreline leaving the tie 5-5 on aggregate and Sudan qualifying on the away goals rule.
