Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, has appealed to the Kogi State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to suspend its industrial action.
At a meeting with the leadership of the union on Friday, the governor urged members of the union to continue holding dialogue with his government, saying his administration has shown commitment to lift the university to new heights.
He said his administration was determined to make the university one of the best citadels of learning in Nigeria.
According to Kingsley Fanowo, the governor’s chief press secretary, Bello asked the workers to appreciate his administration’s effort to pay two months salaries within the first 57 days in office.

The governor said it will not be proper for the union to punish his government and the innocent students for the failure of the past administration to pay their salaries, saying his government will continue to accord priority to the educational sector.
In his response, Gbenga Aina, acting chairman of Kogi ASUU told the governor that the uUnion will go back to the negotiation table to give consideration to his call.
