Yahaya Bello sponsoring attacks on my supporters, says ADC senatorial candidate

Victor Adoji, senatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kogi state, has accused Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, of sponsoring attacks on his supporters.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Adoji said thugs allegedly sponsored by the governor have attacked him and his supporters at least five time this year.

Adoji said his electioneering campaign has been marred at several times by “thugs believed to be working on the orders of Kogi state government.”

He cited a case which purportedly happened on January 19 when his supporters were attacked by “thugs engaged by the APC in the state and were brutally injured.”

“Our supporters are also being subjected to perpetual threats and harassment by stakeholders of the ruling party,” he said.

“This prevailing anti-democratic acts have in the last few days negatively impacted our campaign activities and is creating underpinnings that are not healthy for our political development.

“My supporters and campaign team members now live in fear of being attacked. In fact, they don’t feel safe in their houses anymore due to the rampaging thuggery activities allegedly sponsored by the state government in power.”

He added that he had petitioned the United Nations on the incident, adding that “my supporters and I believe in the rule of law and we are resolute about carrying it to the latter.”

‘ADC CRYING WOLF’

Reacting to the allegations, Kingsley Fanwo, Bello’s spokesman, said the governor has never sponsored any attack on anyone.

Fanwo said the ADC is only crying wolf knowing “they are going to lose the election.”

“All those allegation are cooked and unintelligent propaganda because those people are not on ground,” he said.

“They were all contrived from other smaller parties. So, they are already aware that they are going to lose the election. That is why they are now crying wolf so that when they lose, they will now have someone to pin their loss on,” he said.
