Yakubu withdraws N1bn suit against EFCC

Andrew Yakubu, an ex-group managing director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has withdrawn the fundamental human rights enforcement suit he filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

According to PUNCH, Adeola Adedipe, counsel to Yakubu, informed the court on Tuesday that his client would like to discontinue the suit.

Adedipe explained to the court that the bail given to his client was the reason the suit was being discontinued.

The suit was subsequently struck out by Ahmed Mohammed, the judge, handling the case.

Yakubu had demanded N1 billion as compensation for his alleged unlawful detention, and an apology from Abubakar Malami, attorney-general of the federation.

He filed the suit at the federal high court, Abuja, following his arrest on February 8.

On February 3, operatives of the EFCC raided a building of the former NNPC GMD and recovered the sum of $9.8m and £74,000 in a fire-proof safe.
