Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor of Zamfara state and a senate president hopeful, on Thursday took his campaign to the national secretariat of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
Speaking with reporters after meeting with the NNPP leadership in Abuja, Yari said he is committed to the “Nigerian project”.
The senator-elect has refused to back down despite the position of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party has since nominated Godswill Akpabio, a former minister of Niger Delta affairs, for the number three citizen position.

Yari said he will visit the leadership of other political parties to rally support for his senate president bid.
“We are very committed to the Nigerian project, and we strongly believe that the constitution is going to prevail. We are going to the floor of the house and an election will take place,” he said.
“Fully knowing that it is a democratic setting, we wish to be having these engagements, this is my first place of call and I will be visiting other parties – labour, SDP, PDP, APGA, and YPP and seek the support of their members in this project.

“The 10th assembly is different because we have seven parties, and every party and their votes count. We are going round to canvas the support from the leadership of the parties so they can speak with their members for us to do the right thing for Nigerians.
“We are going to continue with this struggle until we get there.”
Orji Uzor Kalu, chief whip and senate president hopeful, said he is in talks with Yari over his own bid.
