Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara, says All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders in the state are willing to work with Bello Matawalle, his successor who is decamping to the party.
Matawalle, who was elected governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is expected to join the APC alongside all lawmakers in the state on Tuesday.
He was declared the governor in 2019 after the supreme court voided votes of the APC candidates following a flawed primary election.
Speaking after a meeting with APC stakeholders in Kaduna on Monday, Yari said the party has accepted Matawalle’s decision to join them.

“The stakeholders and party loyalists have accepted the decision and are willing to work with the Governor after the formal defection ceremony,” he said.
He also expressed hope that the governor’s planned defection “will be beneficial and will add value to the party in the state.”
Both Yari and Matawalle have not been on good terms since the latter took charge.

In 2019, Matawalle accused him of inciting violence in the state, saying he could order his arrest if killings continue in the state.
He also disclosed in 2020 that Yari’s administration stole N107 billion from the treasury.
