Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has revealed that Arsenal could be speaking with his agent, after confirming that the London club tried to sign him after the departure of Sol Campbell.
Yobo is currently a free agent after leaving Turkish side Fenerbahce.
The 34-year-old featured in the Barclays Premier League at Norwich City last season, but couldn’t help them avoid relegation from the elite division.
Arsenal’s link with the defender may well come as a surprise, but the veteran defender insisted that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger previously tried to sign him while he was with Everton.

“I read Arsenal was interested in me; it was news to me,” he told Daily Star.
“There is no formal contact with anybody. I know Arsene Wenger admires me a lot and wanted me to replace Sol Campbell some years ago, but Everton blocked the move.
“He wanted me to partner Kolo Toure in defence; I was younger then. If negotiations are taking place, I am not aware; maybe the club is speaking with my agent.”

Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker are Wenger’s preferred defensive partnership, but he could do with added cover and Yobo would bring experience to the north London outfit.
His pace and stamina could be a concern for Arsenal fans, as those associated with the Super Eagles of Nigeria still have fond memories of his performance at Brazil 2014 World Cup.
