Yoruba forum kicks against secession, says south-west must not be destabilised

The Yoruba Appraisal Forum (YAF) says it is committed to unity and peace in the country.

The group said it is against the lingering agitation for secession in the south-west.

Ayo Animashaun, YAF national coordinator, in a statement on Wednesday, said the rise in crime rate in the south-west is linked to the agitation for secession.

He asked Nigerians to join the government in combating insecurity in the country.

“We are a law-abiding and patriotic organisation whose major objective is the unity of all Nigerians under a peaceful and progressive atmosphere,” the statement reads.

“We cannot fold our arms and watch a few criminals in the name of secession to unleash terror in the South-West.

“We must collectively strive to ensure peace in our South-West homestead and our dear country as a whole.

“Our fight for peace is a fight by all against these enemies of the state and should not be left for government alone.

“Any plot to destabilise Yorubaland will not work and we will resist it. Enough wasting of innocent lives in Nigeria.”

The group’s comment is coming on the heels of the arrest of Sunday Igboho, Yoruba Nation agitator, in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Igboho’s supporters have staged a protest in Oyo state following his arrest.

  1. The whole politics of secession was introduced by the Igbos to cow other regions into accepting Igbo presidency.
Right now the Southwest occupies the prime position to clinch the presidency. But, some paid hoodlums are all out to scatter that. The region made a long term plan for this, and they’re at the door of making a success.
