You have no option but to declare your assets, CCB tells customs officers

Ezekiel Olusoji, state director of the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), has lamented the slow take-off of the asset declaration of officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), saying the officers have no choice but to comply with the directive.

Last week, Hameed Ali, comptroller-general of NCS, gave his men a 14-day ultimatum to declare their assets.

Ali based the directive on the need to push transparency and compliance with the rule of law.

However, there have been reports on slow compliance on the part of the officers.

In an interview with NAN on Friday, Olusoji said of the 11 commands in Lagos state, only two have submitted their nominal roll to the bureau ahead of the declaration exercise.

“The officers do not have any option than to comply because it is their constitutional responsibility,” he said.

“The officers will collect the form by next week and our officials will enlighten them on how to complete the form.

“The form is technical and it is when we enlighten them that they will not misuse the form.”

He did not disclose the two commands that had submitted their nominal roll.

Olusoji explained  that anyone who collects the asset declaration form, statutorily, should return it within 30 days.
