Kanayo Uzuegbu, the commissioner of police in Enugu, says officers caught engaging in unprofessional conduct in the state would be “sanctioned appropriately”.

Uzuegbu spoke in Enugu on Monday during the inspection of the newly established complaint response unit (CRU) office of the command.

The commissioner said the command is committed to ensuring professionalism among its officers, urging residents to report any operative involved in unethical behaviour.

“I appreciate the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetukun, for his foresight in giving full effect to the establishment of the CRU,” NAN quoted Uzuegbu as saying.

“I laud his unrelenting efforts to reposition the NPF as the foremost and truly professional security agency in Africa.

“I also thank the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Nigeria, for supporting the establishment and equipping of the Enugu State Command’s CRU office.

“The command is assuring that everything will be done to make the office (unit) work optimally.

“The command enjoins the public, particularly residents of Enugu state, to promptly report police unprofessional conduct to the unit by calling: 09160002486; 07059160602; and 08176455557.

“Residents can send text or WhatsApp messages to 09160002487 and emails to [email protected].”

In July, the command declared a retired officer wanted over alleged involvement in terrorism and kidnapping in the state.

Daniel Ndukwe, police spokesperson in the state, said the command also declared seven others wanted over similar offences.
