The Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship campaign council in Kogi says celebrations by some state government appointees are “premature”.
The officials reportedly took to social media to celebrate the supreme court’s ruling on the gubernatorial poll.
In July, the court of appeal affirmed Ododo as the duly elected governor of Kogi, prompting Murtala Ajaka of the SDP to head to the supreme court.
In a statement on Thursday, Isaiah Davies, spokesperson of the campaign council, described the celebrations as a “brazen disregard” for court processes.

Davies said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) should probe the state government for alleged suspicious transactions.
“This is not the first time we have seen this kind of brazen disregard for the judicial process,” the spokesperson said.
He said the campaign does not have confidence in the panel set up by the apex court to hear their appeal.

“We cannot trust the current panel to deliver a fair and impartial judgment,” Davies said.
“We demand a fresh panel that will uphold the integrity of the judiciary and protect the rights of the good people of Kogi state.”
The spokesperson said the apex court must ensure a fair outcome of the case before it.
“We have confidence in the supreme court to uphold justice and maintain public confidence in the judiciary’s ability to deliver impartial and well-reasoned judgments,” he said.

“But we will not hesitate to speak out against any attempts to subvert the course of justice.”
