The Akoko Development Group (ADG) has tasked Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, one of President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial picks, to surpass his past achievements as a public officer.

Tunji-Ojo was elected into the house of representatives in 2019. He was reelected in 2023 before his nomination as a minister-designate by Tinubu.

He was the chairman of the house committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

In a statement on Tuesday, Akin Adaramola, the president of the group, said Tunji-Ojo is a service-oriented politician who has used his position to attract a lot of infrastructural development to the Akoko area of Ondo.

He said the former lawmaker possesses the experience and innovative ideas needed to contribute to the development of Nigeria.

“You used your position to bring a lot of infrastructural development to the area. This was apart from the several empowerment programmes you carried out to uplift the people in your constituency,” the statement reads.

“It is good to be good. Tunji-Ojo’s excellent performance in his first term in the house of representatives contributed to his nomination as a minister by the president.

“Your good deeds are known to people even those outside your constituency or state. Your case should be a lesson to upcoming politicians that whatever position they find themselves in, they should perform to the maximum, as such could bring higher recognition to them.

“The group on behalf of Akoko people at home and abroad, prayed to Almighty God to grant you good health and the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to perform his duties as a minister of the federal republic of Nigeria.”

During his time as chairman house committee on NDDC Tunji-Ojo faced allegations of involvement in fraud at the commission.

He was alleged to have been awarded a road contract by the NDDC and involvement in budget padding, but he denied the allegation which he described as baseless, and challenged anyone with evidence to bring it forward.
