‘You’re a reckless entity’ — Consumer protection CEO tackles Abuja DisCo on Twitter

Babatunde Irukera, chief executive officer of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), has called out the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) over its “poor payment system”.

In a Twitter post on Sunday, Irukera said he bought N50,000 worth of energy but was not connected to electricity for hours.

He described the development as an act of recklessness on the part of the electricity company, which allegedly received the fund, but did not activate his account.

“@aedcelectricity Today August 23, I have made two different online payment on Meter No.45701076437. Both payments debited by @gtbank but you have failed to generate tokens for over 1 hour, and I have no power. Like others you perennially mistreat, I am calling you out right here,” he said.

“I am reaching out to @fccpcnigeria too. They are as much victim as consumers. The classic definition of the impunity & recklessness of a carefree entity whose profit is sole objective to the exclusion of even customers. We keep at it daily- no retreat no surrender. Change, it must!”

In its response, AEDC asked the consumer protection CEO to supply details of his transaction so as to resolve the problem.

Spurred by Irukera’s outburst, other customers shared their experience with AEDC on Twitter.

Zacky, a Twitter user, said: “Talking about poor service, we have had our fair share on this and continue to do so with AEDC. I applied for transformer almost a year now and no transformer in sight. We have sent supporting documents for our request and followed their instructions to the later, yet our request is yet to receive any attention.”
