‘You’re well appreciated’ — Oluyede hails troops’ sacrifices during festive season

Olufemi Oluyede, the chief of army staff (COAS), has commended troops of the Nigerian Army for their sacrifices, particularly those deployed in theatres of operation and peacekeeping missions during the festive season.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday at the 2024 Christmas carol organised by the army headquarters, Oluyede, represented by Kelvin Aligbe, commander of Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), expressed gratitude over the troops’ dedication to safeguarding Nigeria’s territorial integrity.

“The collective efforts of our troops towards securing lives and properties are well appreciated by well-meaning Nigerians and allies of Nigeria,” the COAS said.

Oluyede urged personnel to remain disciplined, focused, and loyal to the constituted authority while demonstrating patriotism and professionalism.

He also reiterated his commitment to the welfare of military personnel, their families and those of fallen and injured soldiers.

“Be assured that all issues to foster professionalism and combat readiness of the Nigerian Army will be upscaled under my leadership,” Oluyede added.

The army chief pledged to sustain “a sound administration that recognises excellence, rewards outstanding performance, and enforces discipline”.

Oluyede thanked President Bola Tinubu for “his support and strategic guidance,” describing it as pivotal to the army’s operations.

“The Nigerian Army will remain committed, determined, and focused on winning all land battles in defence of the territorial integrity of Nigeria,” he said.

The Christmas carol featured seven Bible readings, songs, and entertainment, with participation from top military officers, corporate individuals, religious leaders, and church groups.

Prominent individuals who read Bible passages included Ekpenkpe Ekpo, wife of the minister of state for petroleum (gas); MK Unurhiere, a rear admiral; and Kelvin Aligbe, a major general.

Representatives of the navy and air force, as well as Pearl Isoni, wife of the Nigerian Army Garrison commander, also read passages focusing on the coming of Jesus to redeem the world.
