The Young Parliamentarians Forum (YPF), a group of lawmakers in the national assembly, says it will organise a national dialogue on youth development, constitutional amendment, and electoral reforms.

This is contained in the communique issued at the end of its strategy meeting in Abuja.

In the resolution signed by Kabir Ibrahim Tukura and Simon Karu Elisha, chairman and secretary of the forum respectively on Thursday, the group said the dialogue will promote citizen involvement in ongoing efforts to amend the constitution.

“The YPF will promote the involvement of citizens in the ongoing efforts to amend the constitution. In this regard, the forum will provide leadership in building consensus on constitutional amendment and electoral reform issues amongst young people in Nigeria,” the communique read.

“The forum will also leverage on the ongoing electoral reform process to demand reforms geared towards effective deployment of technology for transparent and credible elections, cost of elections, democratic processes within political parties, and election day management. It called on the government to ensure justice for victims and provide support for their families.

The forum added that the breakdown of law and order that resulted in the looting and destruction of businesses and properties across the country is a threat to collective security and national development.
