Youths protest against ‘alleged plans to postpone elections’

About 200 young Nigerians on Tuesday besieged the All Progressives Congress’ headquarters to protest against the alleged plans of the government to postpone the February general election.
‎The protesters, under the aegis of Nigerian Youths for Credible Elections, said they were at the APC headquarters to show solidarity with the party regarding its call on the government to hold the elections.
Speaking with TheCable, Fubara Dagogo, one of the leaders of the protest, vowed to mobilise more people to storm the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Independent National Electoral‎ Commission (INEC).
“We, the youths, are demanding that the elections be held,” he said.
“We are also protesting against electoral violence and rigging. All we are saying is that the elections must hold.”
When asked the thrust of the protest‎ since the government is insisting that the elections will take place, Dagogo said: “We are only reacting to what we know may happen.”
Zainab Galadima, an APC councilwoman, also amplified the call of the protesters.
“We are gathered here to say that the elections must take place. We feel that the postponement of the elections will lead to a constitutional crisis,” she said.
“Nigerians have endured enough. We want the elections to take place.”
