The Zamfara state government has approved the appointment of Maikano Adamu, a retired major, as the commandant of the security protection guards (CPG).
The appointment which was made after the suspension of Rabi’u Yandoto, the former commandant, was contained in a statement issued by Mannir Haidara, commissioner for information and culture.
NAN reports that Dauda Lawal, the state governor, had in February 2024 launched CPG as part of measures to address insecurity in the state.
“This is to inform the public that Gov. Dauda Lawal has approved the appointment of retired Maj. Maikano Adamu as the Acting Commandant of the State Community Protection Guards (CPG),” the statement reads.

“The appointment followed the recent suspension of former state CPG Commandant, retired Col. Rabi’u Yandoto by the state government.”
Before his appointment, Adamu was the deputy state commandant of CPG.
The suspension of the former commandant may not be unconnected to a recent radio interview, where he accused the state government of non-payment of CPG staff salaries, and lack of logistic support for CPG operations in the state.
