Nasiru Magarya, speaker of the Zamfara house of assembly, has lost his reelection bid.
Magarya, who contested on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC), represents Zurmi west constituency.
He was defeated by Ismail Bilyaminu, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Muddasir Ismail Moriki, the returning officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), said Bilyaminu secured 11,213 votes, while Magarya got 9,530 votes.

“I, Muddasir Ismail, the returning officer of the 2023 Zurmi west state assembly constituency election held on March 18, 2023, the election was contested by candidates with the following votes: Mu’azu Nasiru of APC scored 9,530 votes and Ismail Bilyaminu of PDP scored 11,213 votes. Therefore, Ismail Bilyaminu of the PDP having satisfied the requirements of the law has been declared elected,” he said.
Similarly, Musa Yankuzo, the deputy speaker of the state assembly, also lost his reelection bid.
Yankuzo was defeated by Bello Maza-wajem, the candidate of the PDP.

The deputy speaker polled 13, 820 votes, while the PDP candidate received 21,197 votes.
