Zero hunger is our shared commitment, says Sanwo-Olu’s aide

Lekan Fatodu, senior special assistant to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos on sustainable development goalsn(SDGs), says zero hunger is part of the shared commitment of the government.

Speaking during the launch of SDG week at the headquarters of Old English, a confectionary mart, at Omole Estate, Ojodu, Fatodu said achieving the SDGs cannot happen without ending hunger and malnutrition.

He said comprehensive efforts to ensure everyone gets the basic necessities of life remains a priority of the current administration.

“In light of the pandemic’s effects on the food and agricultural sector, prompt measures are needed to ensure that food supply chains are kept alive to mitigate the risk of large shocks that have a considerable impact on everybody, especially on the poor and the most vulnerable,” Fatodu said.

“Achieving Zero Hunger is our shared commitment and now is the time to work as partners and build a truly committed movement to ensure the Right to Food for all and to build sustainable food systems.”

While applauding the superstore for its support, Fatodu encouraged everyone to work together towards the zero hunger vision.

Solape Hammond, special adviser to the governor on SDGs and investment, described the initiative as a determined effort of government to create a structure that will provide progressive partners an enabling environment to support the sustainable Agenda.

She said the state government is committed to a comprehensive, integrated and transformation programmes to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable development.

Akogun Alfred, chief executive officer of the superstore, appreciated the state government for being proactive in its programme towards “meeting the basic and sensitive needs” of the people, particularly during the COVID-19 period.

He said the business firm is excited to be identified with the state government’s noble efforts of encouraging, engaging, accelerating and amplifying collective action to create food systems that deliver for all people.

The mart offered free loaves of bread to residents of the state in all its outlets.
