Zimbabwean president fires 11 allies of Mugabe

President Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe has fired 11 parliamentarians who are loyal to ex-President Robert Mugabe.

Mnangagwa came to power after Mugabe was forced to resign in November.

He is said to be allegedly sacking those that publicly supported Mugabe and his wife.

According to a transcript of parliament procedures from Thursday, Mabel Chinomona, parliament deputy speaker,  said ZANU-PF, the ruling party, had notified the house of assembly that the sacked persons no longer represented its interest, triggering their dismissal.

Some of the legislators were cabinet ministers in Mugabe’s government.

In November, the party fired five top Mugabe’s allies from parliament, including Jonathan Moyo.

Moyo had said that the international community must help remove the “military government” that has taken power or risk the country descending into chaos.
