Zion ministry denies involvement in continued detention of blogger Ijele Speaks

The Zion Prayer Movement Outreach says its founder, Ebuka Obi, is not involved in the continued detention of Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu.

Ofoegbu is a social media influencer popularly known as Ijele Speaks.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Dan Aibangbe, the ministry’s media adviser, said the reports linking Obi to the “one-year detention” of Ofoegbu are misleading.

Aibangbe said the release order of the blogger was signed by the court on August 15, 2024, after he perfected his bail conditions.

The media adviser said the blogger is in detention due to a case at the federal high court in Anambra, which is not connected to the ministry or its founder.

He added that any information suggesting that the ministry is responsible for the detention of Ijele is false.

“For the record, Ijele Speaks has been granted bail on July 19, 2024 by the court. The bail was perfected on August 16, 2024 and he was released to go home,” Aibangbe said.

“The continued detention of Ijele Speaks has no connection with Evangelist Ebuka Obi rather he is currently in prison custody over separate legal matters not connected with Zion.”

BACKGROUND

In March 2024, Ijele was arrested by the police after he accused Obi of performing fake miracles.

A magistrate court subsequently remanded him at the Keffi Correctional Centre in Nasarawa state.

In May of the same year, the police filed a three-count charge against Ijele Speaks at the federal high court in Lagos.

In June 2024, the social media influencer was granted N50 million bail by the court.
