Zulum inaugurates mentorship programme for out-of-school children in Borno

Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno, has inaugurated the At Risks Children Programme (ARC-P) to provide mentorship for out-of-school children.

Zulum launched the programme on Monday at an event held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim College of Education in Maiduguri, the Borno capital.

Represented by Zuwaira Gambo, commissioner for women affairs in the state, the Borno governor said 968 youth facilitators will undergo training on mentoring vulnerable children.

He said the ARC-P and other social investment programmes are part of the government’s 25-year development plan to improve the lives of youths, women and children affected by insurgency.

The ARC-P is an initiative of the federal government aimed at providing support to vulnerable children who lack access to social protection and basic education.

The governor added that his administration is committed to collaborating with states and the federal government to invest in the lives of citizens.

While commenting on the programme, Maryam Uwais, special adviser to the president on social investment, said the ARC-P was initiated to support vulnerable children.

Uwais, represented by Grace Akpabio, deputy director of budget and planning, said vulnerable women, youths and children will be empowered in the areas of health and education.

“This three-week training in Borno is an opportunity to familiarise with the youths with ARC-P, provide basic tools on mentoring and guidance, recognise the different skills of the trainees and areas of comparative advantage, standard training syllables, as well as serve as feedback machanism,” she said.
