Adeoye Ojuoko, president of Work and Play, promoter of motorsport in Nigeria, says investment made in the sport in 2020 was justified with visible growths.

Ojuoko spoke at the Zuru Autofest held in Kebbi state, which was the last motorsport event held in 2020.

“Although some of the 2020 activities were canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic, the few that held were memorable and worthwhile. Certainly 2020 has set the industry up for major growth in 2021 and we are very hopeful for another eventful year ahead,” he said.

The Zuru Autofest had the biggest assemblage of enthusiasts in the northern part of Nigeria since it debuted in 2009 following the partnership with the Kebbi government as well as the emirate council.

According to Habbeb Nagode, the event facilitator, the attendance of Mohammed Sani Sami, the Emir of Zuru; Yombe Samaila, Kebbi deputy governor; and Bala Ibn Na’Allah, a senator, boosted the latest edition of the event.

“It was a major shift. We had huge support from the state and I believe it proved to be a potential event that can drive tourism and investment for the state,” Nagode said.

The event featured autocross, drifting, bike races among others. It also featured several racers including Shafiu Omer, Maniru Dan Tillah, Shamsu Jafar, Ladi Zuru and Bash Sokoto.
